Girl needs guy advice about car stereo!?

I do not know anything about cars, except that i drive one! I want to get a car stereo put into my vehicle( 2004 alero) so that i can play my ipod in my car. Ive looked on ebay, searched the web, but nothing is better than word of mouth.

I would like to know what all i need to get ( or order)

How do i know the new stereo will fit in my stereo spot? What is the cheapest way of going about doing this without getting taken advantage of? I would LOVE to get bluetooth installed, BUT i am just a college student on a tight budget. Eventually i want to get these things done though! Guys, tell me your advice, and secrets to save money!Girl needs guy advice about car stereo!?
forget best buy and circut city. they dont sell good products, and there installers are generally idiots. if i were you i'd go to a private shop, and pick out a radio that you like. make sure it has what you listed above, and that its easy for you to use. there going to charge you for that and the install, but there also going to charge you for a wiring harness, and a mounting kit. the wiring harness is to let your new radio plug into your car, and the mounting kit is to let your radio mount to the car. i have a 01 grand am, which is pretty much the same thing as a Alero. i know that it's not a hard install, and it should only take about an hour. if your worried about quality brands i'd go for one of these.

Pioneer Premier

Eclipse

Kenwood Excelon

also if you also want speakers your going to know what size speakers you have. which is 4x6 in the front and 6x9 in the rear.

good luck, hope it helps.Girl needs guy advice about car stereo!?
i would say in your case is probably go to best buy and buy a head unit from them and they might install it for free or for pretty cheap.

as far as what to get if you wanted to do it your self. brand doesn't really matter it is just what your prefer and what you think look nice and what you want it to do. check out your lock car stereo shops and see what they and and do some research on-line crutchfield is a OK place to start. once you find out what head unit you want then you will need a wiring harness. you can go to the back of best buy where they do their installs and talk to the guy there and say i need a wiring harness for a 2005 allegro to fit XXX(stereo brand) they usually run around 15-25 bucks. and if you don't have a standard factory stereo then you might have to buy a mounting kit.
Any stereo is going to fit in your car, there is a so called dash kit you will need to buy and a wiring harness to fit the wiring in the car already. A lot of times if you buy a CD player at say Best Buy they will include both of those plus the installation for free. To get your ipod to work on it try to find one with inputs on the back, but since you can't see the back just ask the sales person what stereo's have inputs. There will be a pretty wide selection for you. You won't need anything expensive because your not going to be hooking and sub woofers or amps to it.
keep the factory stereo

you can install the ipod to the factory radio and also the bluetooth

the ipod interface is about 130.00 and the bluetooth about 280.00
