This is one of my previous answers as i CBA to write it all out again XD

have a few Buff Orpingtons which are one of the larger breeds but the are very friendly. The eggs that they leg are brown (shell). You need a secure coop and hen house to protect her from predators. My hens lay one egg each day. She wont fly away as they are large and have small wings. They are beautiful due to their fluffy feathers ^_^

You would want to keep your hen in your garden in the hen house. You want the hen house attached to the coop so it has space to move in the day ( if your not planning on letting it wander in your garden) you might want to attach a stiff lock on the hen house and coop as foxes can break in easily if a lock is loose. Your hen should be locked inside every night in her hen house with the latch compartment down so she is safe. You need to clean it out at least once every week. You should feed it a layers pellet mix which contains everything she needs. She,should have clean water everyday and a perch and nesting box in the hen house (NOT THE COOP) the nesting box should contain straw or sawdust to keep her warm. Chickens are much more lovable than people think. They have their own personalities. If you are planning to let them out in the day make sure they are supervised at all times incase of predators eg foxes and birds of prey. And remember to give them the occasional treat and fuss :) If you are planning on raising them from chicks then make sure all injections are done so eggs are safe to eat and your hen lives a happy life. I would reccomend getting two hens as they enjoy other hens company and can become lonely. Make sure that your garden is secure with no holes for them to wander off. I hope that you get yourself some hens. Maybe you would een consider getting a battery hen? They have been confined to tiny cages where they are unable to move all of their battery life. Don't be put off by their looks, once in a loving home their feathers will start to grow back and you will have a beautiful chook in no time! Also don't think because they are out of the buisness that they will stop laying, most will lay daily for a few more years! They cost around 50p-拢1 from a local battery. Another option is going to a local farmer where you can look and dicide which breed is best for you. I would definitely reccomend a couple of Buff Orpingtons in your garden :)

okay so any others questions, email me... They should be fine with your cat and will probably scare it away LOL

another good reason to get buff orpingtons because they are big compared to others and would scare the cat and it wouldnt dare try it on LOL... they also have a lovely friendly temperment :)

enjoy having your chickens.. they're greatAdvice about keeping chickens?
im not sure about the warrens part but i have two dogs and one cat and lots of chickens. they are all fine around each other but the cat would eat the chicks if it could so i have to keep them seperate. my dogs are fine around the chickens and dont harm them but i have had a few people come over with their dog and the dog killed a chicken. it really depends on the dog. if your dog does want to kill the chickens then introduce them slowly and tell the dog off if it attempts to hurt them
id try introducing the chikens to the dogs slowly just to be sure %26amp; if they seem to get along then try leaving them out [but mayb checking on them for the first week]

as for the cat well mt cat likes to keep a close eye on my chikens but he hasnt attacked them yet! mayb if you put the cat inside everytime you wanted to let the chikens out.

just to be safe.
As long as you keep them fenced while they are little they should be ok. The cat might try to kill the babies but it probably wont try anything with a grown chicken. Oh and Bantams are known to be ill tempered birds especially the males.
id say you wished you never asked that question eh ?
