She's mainly doing it to regulate her cycle. Right now, she gets really bad cramps when her period starts, sometimes the pain isn't helped with regular aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil. She also sometimes becomes depressed or angry when she has PMS. Also, her cycle is very unpredictable - sometimes her cycle lasts up to 6 weeks. Will taking birth control help reduce any of her symptoms? My girlfriend is about to start taking the pill (birth control). Any advice?
It has definitely helped mine. Every woman is different, so it may take up to three months before her body completely adjusts to the hormones in the pill. Even then, if the particular pill that she's on is not right for her body, she may have to keep trying different pills until she finds the best one. If she does luck up the first time, the pill can definitely help out with the symptoms that you mentioned. It has helped me tremendously.
Hope this helps. Good luck!My girlfriend is about to start taking the pill (birth control). Any advice?
Some forms of birth control will helps these syptoms. But maybe not all of them. She might be experiencing PMDD (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder). If she's having any of these symptoms:
Very depressed mood, feeling hopeless
Marked anxiety, tension, edginess
Sudden mood shifts (crying easily, extreme sensitivity)
Persistent, marked irritability, anger, increased conflicts
Loss of interest in usual activities (work, school, socializing, etc.)
Difficulty concentrating and staying focused
Fatigue, tiredness, loss of energy
Marked appetite change, overeating, food cravings
Insomnia (difficulty sleeping) or sleeping too much
Feeling out of control or overwhelmed
Physical symptoms such as weight gain, bloating, breast tenderness or swelling, headache, and muscle or joint aches and pains
Then that's what she's going throgh. I know of one kind of birth control that helps with PMDD and it's called YAZ. I Would tell her to talk to her doctor about it. I hope I helped.
Taking birth control is generally a doctor's first response to excessive mestration and hopefully it will actually work in your girlfriends case.
Every person reacts differently to birth control so you will not receive a right or wrong answer here. In my case, I took Depo Provera for birth control. It is a horomone injection that I used to take every 3 months and just easier for me. I had zero menstration (which I liked) and did it for over 10 years without troubles. For the actual pill, I didn't like it because I was not responsible enough to take it timely as directed; but at least I knew when to expect my period when I hit the last row of pills (sugar pills.) Both ';cured'; me of PMS and everything associated with being a woman! LOL!
Although, they don't make a pill for being ';bitchy,'; it should help her even out any mood swings.
In the first 2-3 months, be sure to ask her how things are going for her. Help her to monitor any changes that are good or bad so she can report back to her doctor in case a change is required.
