i want to move to seattle and live there. just curious if you can give me some advice about seattle and some jobs that work with pets/animalsCan anyone give me some advice about moving/living in seattle.?
This is an amazing place to live. Seriously.
I moved here from the Midwest about 5 years ago, and I was a bit (strike that, I was hella shocked) at how much it cost to live here. Trust me, paying $7 for boneless chicken breast was outrageous at the time. But overall, I made my peace with it. Here's why:
--Animal lovers who truly LOVE animals. Forget that dude from Enumclaw (just Google it); people up here love animals and actually want to help them AND go out of their way to help them. I would check out animal shelters up here, or maybe some National Park Service positions. If you really want to work with animals, don't worry, you'll find a position.
--The weather is very constant. Do not believe what you hear: it doesn't rain ALL the time in Seattle. But it is mostly cloudy year-round, save for a 8 week gap in summer. Where I came from, yeah, we had seasons, but they were very extreme. Insane rain, will-breaking cold, all with no rhyme or reason. Here, the thing you can count on most is that it will be 40 degrees. Just bring some sweaters and dress in layers.
--Housing. At first, I was scared, but homesharing up here is pretty cool. I've had some great housemates, I've had some horrific housemates, but all-in-all I've taken away (and am still creating) some good memories from the experience. Plan on paying about $600+ and search for a place you can get to by bus. Having a car in the city is optional--not like some places in the Midwest.
Good luck to you and I hope this has been helpful! Can anyone give me some advice about moving/living in seattle.?
Seattle is great. I had a bit of a shock moving from Indiana. The tomatoes cost $4.99 in Seattle. The Woodland Park Zoo is always looking for people to work with the animals and the aquarium is a nice place to work, too. The weather isn't that rainy-it doesn't come down in buckets like the midwest thunderboomer storms. Capital Hill is a good starter neighborhood-the rent is a bit high all over Seattle;but, you can always find a roommate. People are relaxed about appearance-my banker has a lot of tattoos and has a pierced nose. Seattle is very dog and cat friendly-dog watering spots in all of the shops the bookstores have resident cats. The Three Dog bakery is a really fun place and they usually have job openings. There is even a magazine for and about local dogs called Seattle Dog. Good luck, you'll like Seattle-bring a sweater!
Seattle is a nice place the air is hot and dry not humid which is a good thing. Although it rains alot it helps you appreciate the sunny weather there is alot to do in Seattle area and there are great views i.e Mt Rainer, Mt St Helens, Pugit Sound, lots of seafood good seafood lots of cruise ships and friendly people!
figure out your transportation needs , if you live in Downtown there is really no need for a car, plenty of transit and no free parking....in rural areas like Maple Valley and Enumclaw there is much need for vets, vet reception ,and the like....
if your moving to seattle got a job at a petco or a petsmart. try to find a pretty cheap house then the value will probaly increase because that happens in seattle
Love Seattle! ( *v* ) Coffee is great!
I used to live there, such a nice place!
Check this out! My favorite coffee shop!
'; Vivace coffee shop '; on Capital Hill!
I live in Seattle, and my advice is this: Seattle is a great city with a lot of things to do, but bring your own friends.
