Im thinking about breeding my female chihuahua, does anyone have any advice on how to do it the right way?

And if I do decide to breed her, What should i be looking for in the male to breed her with,personality,looks,health,ect.....Im thinking about breeding my female chihuahua, does anyone have any advice on how to do it the right way?
First Think long and hard about WHY you want to breed. Your dog is cute and you want some puppies? I can show you hundreds of pictures of puppies as equally cute that will die becasue of a lack of homes. You think it will help with your pup's behavior problems? A Training class will be a lot less hassle? Or maybe your dog is an outstanding specimen of her breed and really has something to offer toward the gene pool?

Either way it's not a decision to be taken lightly. Ethically there is apet over-population crisis in this country. At a closer to home level (especially with toy breeds) breeding can be dangerous to the health of the mum - emergency surgeries, increased risk of cancer. Is it worth it to you to shorten your pup's life expectancy? Not to mention COSTLY - you won't make money if you do it right. And it's not just the money - don't forget the emotional tax - how will you handle the death of the pups?

and what is The right way to breed?

Research. TONS of research.

Your stud choice will be determined based on that. It really depends on you ***** and her pedigree, and your goals as a breeder.

A solid knowledge in filial regression is an absolute MUST to be a responsible breeder.

If you are serious about it. Get involved with a breed club. go to shows. MENTOR with an established breeder.Im thinking about breeding my female chihuahua, does anyone have any advice on how to do it the right way?
read this

and then Don't.

breeding is COSTLY if you do it the CORRECT way. (All health tests, vet check ups.. etc.) also, to do it ';right'; you need papers. Is your dog UKC registered? AND, has it won any awards? Is it a Champion? Is your dog's temperament to standard? If yes to all of this, then you need a stud dog who is also a ';yes'; to all of this... IF you want to do it the ';right'; way.

Otherwise you are just a backyard breeder.

ps. you should already know the ';health'; concerns of your breed if you are serious about breeding...
The same way as any other female. Just get her drunk and ask her back to your dorm.
Why? Is this a grand champion dog with generations of champions before her? No - I'm sure she isn't. So your reason is, I suppose - to make money? Well why don't you make a visit to your local animal shelter so that you can get an idea about the pet overpopulation problem. And how allowing your dog to breed will just add to the problem. And if your reason is because you think your dog is just so cute and you want to make more dogs that look like her - well, is that worth other animals DYING?

Fact is, in six years one female dog and her unspayed/unneutered litter can produce SIXTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOGS. Which means SIXTY SEVEN THOUSAND dogs will end up being put to death because of the puppies you added to the pet overpopulation problem. Do you really want to be responsible for that? Are you really that greedy that thousands and thousands of animals will die because of your greed? I sure hope not.
